الوصف

Praise be to Allah, and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions. In the past, grandmothers used to entertain our children in the late evening with stories and riddles that brought joy to young hearts. These riddles, known as “Al-Huja,” were a source of wisdom and wit, originating from the word “Al-Hijja,” which signifies intelligence and cleverness. Some of these stories sharpened minds and brought happiness to the young ones before they succumbed to sleepiness.

In this book, we present these tales in the old-fashioned manner, preserving many of their expressions and style. As we embark on this journey, we say, as our grandmothers used to say in the old days, “I came to you, and you came to me, bringing your dinner, and I brought you mine.” The grandmothers used to conclude each story with the phrase, “And it settled and spread in the small hole in us…” We have replaced it with the expression “A Thousand and One Nights,” considering the prevailing sentiments of people in this time and age. Dr. Abdullah Al-Tayeb, may God be our helper.
